Pakiri
This small town could well be the Matakana Coast ’s best-kept secret. We wonder for how long? Pakiri allows you a certain oneness with the ocean not easily found in other parts.
Pakiri is a 14 km long sandy stretch of east coast beach – only 15 minutes from Salty Dog. It is part of the “Mangawhai-Pakiri Embayment” which runs from Bream Tail to Cape Rodney.
Pakiri is probably the last remaining undeveloped east coast beach within 2 hours drive of Auckland – it is a beautiful and remote beach and well worth the trip. In fact, the locals proudly (and rightly so!) consider Pakiri beach as one of New Zealand’s best.
For surfers Pakiri reputedly has a good beach break that performs well around high tide in a 1.5 metre easterly swell. And if galloping on a horse on a pristine beach is your kind of thing, put ‘em denims on and saddle up pardner… it’s time to take a ride on the Pakiri beachside!
