Matakana
A quiet explosion of culture and creativity, Matakana Village is as spectacular as the beaches and vineyards that surround it.

Full of artistic activities, Matakana is a fusion of style with retail in a beautiful, architecturally designed environment – which includes the aesthetically created Matakana toilets!
Once the fruitbowl of Auckland, Matakana Coast is now home to a flourishing wine industry with Matakana Village as the hub and many wineries in close proximity.
When in Matakana, a visit to a winery is a must. Most wine estates are happy to offer cellar-door tasting and a guided excursion through the vineyard. You are sure to be amazed at the quality, variety and flavour of the home-grown wine. Get ready to sniff, sip, swirl and savour. Cheers!
Matakana Farmers’ Market
A more recent but highly popular tourist attraction, Matakana hosts the Matakana Farmers’ Market – a collaboration of organics and sustainability, or simply, a meeting of the best locally grown fruit and vegetables – plucked fresh off the field.
Now world famous, the Matakana Farmers Markets offer mind-boggling choice. With several artisans tempting your palate all year around with quality, wholesome delicacies – oils, nuts, baked items, seafood, gourmet food and farm-fresh produce.
We offer a ‘pick up and drop off ‘ shuttle service for our guests, so if you’re staying with us at The Salty Dog Inn you can get to and from the Matakana markets without needing to worry about parking
From fashion boutiques and fragrant florists, from beauty & wellness to retail therapies, Matakana has something for everyone. Come and discover it for yourself.
